Why we started
Reading is better with witnesses.
Silent Book Club Lekki began with a simple idea: no assigned reading, no homework, no performance. Bring whatever you're already reading. We sit together at Sidebar, phones down, for an hour of quiet. Then the room opens up — recommendations, arguments, new friends, a cocktail matched to the book of the month.
It's free, it's monthly, and it's for anyone in Lagos who misses reading.
"I'm in a book club with friends, and honestly, I don't always love the books we pick. We vote, but the selection isn't always great. I love the women in the group — I just struggle with the choices. I love the idea of a silent book club: come together, read whatever you're actually into, then talk about the different books everyone's reading."
